For IT

You keep the keys. We do the low-level engineering.

Pylon gives your IT team full control of the phone system, and our engineers handle the telecom work behind the scenes.

Two ways to manage it, one system underneath

Admin Portal

Full browser-based control for IT: users, phones, numbers, call flows, voicemail, fax, 911 locations and phone provisioning. Nothing to install.

Simple Admin

A simpler app for everyday changes, such as adding a user, moving a phone or updating a number, so trained office staff can help without touching the deeper settings.

User portal

Staff manage their own extension, voicemail, faxes and conference rooms in a browser, without a ticket to IT.

Mobile app

Staff make and take business calls on their own cell phones, without sharing their personal number.

Zero-touch provisioning

Plug the phone in. It configures itself.

Yealink desk phones set themselves up when they’re plugged in: no walking room to room typing settings. Poly, Obihai, Htek, Grandstream and Cisco phones set up through DHCP options, and standard SIP phones, softphones and mobile apps work too.

Ask us which models we recommend for classrooms, offices and front desks.

  • Plug in
The phone gets power and network.
  • It fetches its setup
    Extension, lines and features, automatically.
  • Ready
Swap or move phones the same way.

Advanced call flows

Call flows as detailed as your day.

Time-of-day and holiday routing, menus, ring groups, call queues and nested routing. Build them in the portal and change them whenever your schedule changes.

  • Call menus in more than one language, holiday menus and emergency modes
  • Call recording, call queues, voicemail-to-email and transcription
  • Overhead paging through SIP paging hardware
  • Analog fax through an adapter, or email-to-fax boxes
  • 911 locations with detail such as the room number
  1. Call to the main number
    1. Schedule checkSchool hours, holidays and breaks
      1. Open Menu“Press 1 for attendance, 2 for the front office…”

An API for everything

Our own portal is built on the same API, so every feature in the portal is also available through the API. If you can do it in the portal, you can script it.

Pylon runs on Kazoo, the open-source telecom platform, so the API is the documented Kazoo REST API. Read the API documentation.

Programmable call control

Need something custom? Your systems can decide what happens to a call in real time over webhooks. For example, route calls using data from your own systems, or build a custom menu.

Reliable, and supported by engineers.

Datacenters on the East Coast, in the Central US and on the West Coast, with failover. Keep your existing phone numbers when you switch.

Your admins reach our engineers directly, all in the USA: during business hours, with critical support 24/7/365 for outages. We don’t make your staff wade through scripts, and we don’t take control away from your IT team.

Your team runs your network. Phones need cabling, power, DHCP, DNS and internet access, and calls need a healthy network. See the network requirements.

  • Serving K-12 and nonprofits since 2016
  • Datacenters East, Central and West
  • All support in the USA
  • No long-term contract

Questions from IT teams

Do you have call recording, call queues and voicemail-to-email?

Yes. Call recording, call queues, voicemail-to-email and voicemail transcription are available, along with time-of-day and holiday routing, ring groups, call menus in more than one language, and emergency modes for a lockdown, fire or closure. (In California, recording calls requires everyone's consent.)

Do you manage our network?

No. Your IT team, or your IT provider, manages your network: cabling, switches and power, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, the firewall, Wi-Fi and your internet service. We check the essentials with you during planning and tell you what we see from our side. See the network requirements.

Can we make overhead announcements?

Yes. Overhead paging and PA systems connect through standard SIP paging hardware, so you can make announcements from a phone. We'll recommend paging models that work well for your buildings.

Which phones do you support?

Yealink phones set themselves up (zero-touch). Poly, Obihai, Htek, Grandstream and Cisco phones work through DHCP options, and so does nearly anything SIP-compatible. Buy phones from us, with a 5-year advanced replacement warranty, or use compatible phones you already have. See phone prices.

Who do we call for help?

Your IT admins reach our engineers directly during business hours, and critical support is available 24/7/365 for outages. All support is in the USA. We support the people who manage the system (your IT staff or your IT provider), so they stay in control.

Do you work with Microsoft Teams or Google Voice?

Pylon is a complete phone system on its own, and it doesn't plug into Microsoft Teams. You can keep using Teams or Google Workspace for chat and meetings while Pylon runs your phones. Our guide explains the main options fairly.

Where are you, and where is support?

We're based in Sonoma County, California, and all of our support is in the USA. Our datacenters are on the East Coast, in the Central US and on the West Coast, with failover.
