For K-12 schools and districts

Phones that work the way schools do.

Real desk phones in every classroom and office, call routing for the school day, and pricing your business office can actually compare.

Classroom and office desk phones

A real phone on the wall or desk, at a classroom price.

Most schools want a real phone in every room, not an app on a laptop. A classroom phone is $9.98 a month: a phone plus an extension, with no seat license.

  • Zero-touch setup for Yealink desk phones; Poly and other brands through DHCP options
  • Office lines with voicemail and a direct number: $12.46 a month
  • Buy phones from us or use compatible phones you already have

Prices before taxes and government fees, which we estimate up front.

Call flows for school life

Routing that follows the bell schedule.

  • An attendance line with after-hours messages and voicemail emailed to the right person.
  • Holiday and break schedules so callers hear the right message when school is closed.
  • Front-office overflow: ring groups that roll to the next desk before voicemail.
  • A district main line that routes callers to each school, department or menu, in more than one language.
  • Emergency modes for a lockdown, fire or closure, planned with you so everyone knows how calls are handled.

Connect overhead paging and PA systems through SIP paging hardware, and make announcements from a phone. We’ll recommend paging models that work well for your buildings.

911 done right

Direct 911 dialing, an email notification when someone dials 911, and dispatchable locations down to the room. You set the locations, we test 911 with you during installation, and we provide the labels the rules require.

Usually a one-day switch

We routinely move schools in a single day, often during school hours, with testing before and after. Prefer a break? We’ll plan around your calendar.

K-12 questions

What about 911?

We set up direct 911 dialing, an email notification when someone dials 911, and dispatchable locations (the address plus building, floor and room). You set the location details, and we test 911 with you during installation. We also provide the disclosures and labels the rules require. Read our 911 guide for schools.

What does a classroom phone cost?

$9.98 a month (a phone plus an extension), before taxes and fees. Add a voicemail box for $0.99 a month if you want one.

Is there a contract?

There's no long-term commitment. Either side can end service with 30 days' notice. Read the summary of our standard agreement.

Is VoIP covered by E-Rate?

No. Voice service hasn't been eligible for E-Rate (the federal school and library telecom discount program) since 2019. Internet access and internal data connections still are. That's one reason honest, itemized phone pricing matters.

Can you connect fire alarms or elevator phones?

No. Fire alarm panels, elevator emergency phones and other life-safety lines need specialized, listed equipment. Ask your alarm or elevator vendor about the right connection for those lines.

What is a not-to-exceed amount?

Because pricing is usage-based, we give you a ceiling your board can approve. It allows 50% more calling than estimated and 10% growth, including estimated taxes, so routine changes don't need a new approval.

Can we keep our phone numbers?

Yes. We transfer (port) your numbers, and your old service stays on until the move is complete. Our guide explains how porting works.

Can we make overhead announcements?

Yes. Overhead paging and PA systems connect through standard SIP paging hardware, so you can make announcements from a phone. We'll recommend paging models that work well for your buildings.

Which phones do you support?

Yealink phones set themselves up (zero-touch). Poly, Obihai, Htek, Grandstream and Cisco phones work through DHCP options, and so does nearly anything SIP-compatible. Buy phones from us, with a 5-year advanced replacement warranty, or use compatible phones you already have. See phone prices.

How is Pylon priced?

Itemized and usage-based. You pay for phones, extensions, numbers, voicemail boxes and calling. There's no seat license, so a classroom phone doesn't cost as much as a staff line. See Pricing.

Who do we call for help?

Your IT admins reach our engineers directly during business hours, and critical support is available 24/7/365 for outages. All support is in the USA. We support the people who manage the system (your IT staff or your IT provider), so they stay in control.

How long does switching take?

Usually a single day: we routinely move schools to Pylon in a day, often during school hours, with minimal disruption. Moving your existing numbers takes a few days to a few weeks depending on your current carrier, so we plan the cutover date around it. If your phones are down now, see Phone system down?

Are taxes included?

No. Government taxes and fees are added on top, as with most phone services. We show you an itemized estimate up front, and your invoice lists every line. Public agencies are often exempt from local utility taxes; bring your exemption certificate.

Do you work with Microsoft Teams or Google Voice?

Pylon is a complete phone system on its own, and it doesn't plug into Microsoft Teams. You can keep using Teams or Google Workspace for chat and meetings while Pylon runs your phones. Our guide explains the main options fairly.

Can you help us with business texting?

Yes. Business texting is a feature for our customers, and we help you register your brand and campaigns with the carriers. Start with our free SMS compliance kit.
